manners in business

Many years ago, back in primary school, i was told “what looks good, it is good” regardless of the fact that looking and being can be very different things.

Nevertheless in our society, this concept comes along many times and by looking at something that looks good, we feel it may actually be good – wrong!

The happenning occurred today, i got a very persistent call from an agent, asking me to do something i didnt really want to commit on doing and pushing the errand to the future, but she “politely persistent” so it was becoming really difficult and annoying to shut the conversation and move on. However at the end, i said “look, i am at work, in a meeting and i cant talk, ok?” Even there she asked when it was a better time to call. My goodness, sometimes they just to give up!

body dependencies

After already 3 days bearing a huge back pain, i can only express my tiredness and grief.

This body we are given at birth is truly our sole companion that walks with us along our life’s way.

As youngsters, we may feel we are unbeatable and that can try and do everything we desire as our body is strong, flexible and recovers pretty fast after anysituation in most of the cases.

I am not saying now i am an aged fellow, i am on my mid thirties (34 in a couple of months) but certain time this body dependence that we have makes us feel much older, just as i am feeling right because of the physical challenges I am facing these days.

The moral in all this, at least for me, is to keep a balanced life among family, work, sport and food, the proper combination of all these four factors should help you keep your body companion fit and somehow more independent :)

Scary times!

it does not fail to surprise the current affairs around the world. The chaos is only starting, the irony in all of it is the terrible weather and climate conditions that are taking certain areas by storm.

Insurance companies going bust, banks trembling because of liquidity issues, the whole world is suffering one of the strongest crisis ever and still certain Mass Media are informing about the skirt a particular lady is wearing, or the importance of a soccer coach about a stupid match he does not remember.

To my eyes, this is clear misinformation and to some extent manipulation of current events, reality or whatever you wish to call it.

If you look, listen and go around, you will perceive that something wrong is happening to the world. The whole global economy is shaking and so are the local smaller economies. In terms of climate it is more of the same story, even the Pope is saying bizarre things these days (well, Bennedicte has always been anyway…) but the whole point is that ladies and gentlemen, we should step back a bit and have a look at the world where we live and that OUR CHILDREN will inherit from us.

Violence is a #1 topic as well, kids are dying to play at the Grand theft Auto games for instance, because the reality, vividness and emotions, most probably are things that in the “real” non virtual world are each day more diffifuclt to sense.

with this small pondering i leave now.

faces

Again a sunday after a whole week of vacation, i find myself at bella napoli (already mentioned this restaurant in previous posts) tonight i will change pizza pazza for an erneste with natural tomato, lets see if i can recommend it!

Faces is the title of the post, but actually it should be Hats. We all wear different hats depending on the situation or context that we find ourselves in.

Throughout life we go through different stages where our roles may have changed. The funny thing is that when you meet again people you found in a particular phase, you tend to wear automatically the hat you wore back then… But WHY?

Have we not evolved, changed or left behind that phase where we behaved in the way the hat expected us to?

One way or another, the truth is that our hats change as we walk along life, and the question remains unanswered…. Should we only keep our latest hat? Or should we keep all of them and wear them ocasionally?

Children are our future

just a quick post about naiveness and the true color of love.

Context: The TV commercial entitled Tan Hong Ming, conceptualised and directed by local advertising creative director and filmmaker Yasmin Ahmad, has won three awards (two gold and one bronze) at the 2008 International ANDY awards in New York.

Summer Time, Time for Friends

On this Sunday of August, listening to our beloved Frank’s “My Way”, I get a feeling for continuing the post I started yesterday. I pondered about the relationship between summer time and the time with friends.

for some reason this is a pattern that is becoming a rule. Summer time is not only a time for fun and vacation but also a chance to see friends you have not seen for so long. nicely enough the gathering bring back good vibrations with those beloved even if long time has passed by.

Looking a bit on google: friend

1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter: friends of the Boston Symphony.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile: Who goes there? Friend or foe?
4. a member of the same nation, party, etc.
5. (initial capital letter) a member of the Religious Society of Friends; a Quaker.

–verb (used with object)

6. Rare. to befriend.

7. make friends with, to enter into friendly relations with; become a friend to.

Having those descriptions in mind it seems to be clear who our friends can be. The truth is that friends are unconditional and will always be there for you. I know it may sound a bit of wishful-thinking, but to some true extent is the correct. I guess that if in doubt, you should really use any of the definitions from above and see if those who you find as your friends, they really are.

take care my friend!

To Beijing or not to?

I guess many of the prime ministers and kings and queens of our time have pondered about wether or not supporting this year’s Olympics in the chinese capital.

The thought is not trivial as it implies many connotations. I am sure a large range of bloggers have also given literature on the matter, it is clear but why characters like Sarkozy have given in and ended up supporting the world event? Or even faces like Prince and Princes of Spanish crown have also attended?

The truth to me is that the chinese empire is ruling their people like during the times of ancient history…. Dictatorship is so tangible that you can smell in the polluted air of the city.

The question is “why?”

Yes, why have the world ruling roles given in and surrened to attend to such historical event even knowing what it may mean to world? Showing applaud to one of the biggest dictatorship of our time?

Hmmm, not so sure, but sometimes I think we all feel we are all human, and events like the one happening these days are so overwhelming that it can overtake our beliefs to satisfy or entertain our emotions.

Bejing 2008 is defintely a milestone in history, now the point is how the books will describe and show it to our descendents.

Enjoy the games!

Everything is Relative

Just a few years ago, our genius, Al Onestone, I am talking about Albert Einstein, said it – he claimed that “Everything is Relative.”

This morning on the plane from Rio to Paris I remembered Al and not by chance.

This particular commute, Rio de Janeiro-Barcelona with a layover in Paris gets a bit lengthy and tiring, obviously thanks to the number of hours, the layover, lack of sleep, etc, anyway enough said, but it is clear in the end it is unfriendly travel.

This being said, here it is when I recalled our friend Al when speaking to an Indian couple, they were telling me about their trip and how it was a long commute for them from Rio to their final destination. The story was interesting and it was as follows: up to Paris it was kust like my trip, so around 11 hours. After Paris they had a layover of around 3 hours there, just enough time to get them ready for another 11 hours to Mumbai. Once there, they still were to enjoy another nice layover of a couple of hours until catching to the final plane that would take them to their home town where they would arrive at around 7h am, so literally one more day of flying when speaking in local times.

After this short story, the moral that the woman was telling was that at nearly at 50 the trip itself was a bit tiring, but the story was not ending there, she went on saying, “as we get there early in the morning, we take advantage of the day. My husband already has a meeting at 9h30 and I am off to my duties”. At that second, I had to reach around to get my jae and put it back as it had fell off while listening to their story. Clearly enough, I could only add to it when comparing it to my trip being extremely tiring “Everything is Relative”

when shit happens, positive thinking

Yes, i know it may sound a bit raw or even badly-mannered, but the truth is that certain things happen for a reason (i am still looking for it this time though :p ) but actually when you want certain things to happen in a precise way… For some reason they dont happen. This is the case of today. I am still in Rio. My plane should have been today so that tomorrow midday i could enjoy my family back in Barcelona. Well, the funny thing is that this time, the booking was not precise enough and my return is delayed 1 day :(

At this point, positive thinking is the only way to move forward to find sense and still a way to make progress, because even if plans dont happen exactly as we wanted them to, we still have a chance to score the sky!

A friend of mine told me once that “life is what happens while you are making other plans” et voila!

And to me this makes most sense in these cases where can do nothing but to continue and go on.

Now, in this cab, funnily enough, the cd is playing “sublime” a famous group in california back in late 90s which has a coincidence because this friend who told me about life and other plans is related somehow to this music.

What a small world!!!

and the night is done

Starting with some antipasti, focazza, mozzarella di buffala, the full maragarita pizza followed. For sure not being enough the nice mixture od desserts, including tiramisu, came to our delight.

After dinner Baretto Londra was the stop to make where a bit of live music filled the room starting with a remake of Amy winehouse’s Rehab.

Once Londra was getting crowded, Jobi was the place to follow where the last chopp led the night to the beginning… Now in th cab i am finding my way to bed to Sheraton.

Sleep well!
