My italian boss has a tendency to mix the words “poor” and “pure”, so things will become poor biz dev issue, etc

Anyhow, after yesterday’s results from germany vs portugal match, I can say that the portuguese are not poor because they lost but actually the are pure soccer players, style, energy and jogo bonitinho, but the german bulldozer had no mercy!

This sunday we will see my boss favorite vs my beloved spain!

So far its been impressive the views of Fernando Carrion (microsoft) and John Lynn (grey group), a sharp look at spanish digiconsumers (carrion), and a great and deep stab at current issues that impact advertisers and agencies, coupled with fulfilling imagery and video respectively (lynn).

For a digital marketeer, like me, focused on hourly roi, it is a learning experience to see these guys in action and see, feel and share their enthusiasm when they talk about their work, life and how they see the world today (for other humans, this is the tomorrow) and take a guess at how it could be the next tomorrow.

Quiet now, the next is about to start!

Candidates to do excercises in interviews.

Why?

Because you have to be the most gentleman and put them under stress only for you to have some results about what they say they can do.

In a way it makes most sense, otherwise if their word is weak, you risk employing someone without the right skills to do the job, which is actually not so good.

Oh well, the truth is that it is Tuesday and still we have the whole week in front! Look forward to wednesday, the its only down hill!

macro and micro… what?

Management!

There is only one letter difference between them both, but it doesnt mean that they share a whole a lot when it comes to details.

Where the A talks about the general, the vision, strategy and overall, the I is in the details, the QA, the controlling and supervising.

The reason for this post is that tentatively these two types of management are hardly feasible correctly at the same time and by the same person with good results.

If you do A, you have to rely on your staff to do I. Otherwise you risk to lose expertise and input from the guys who are doing daily the I.

I wonder how in daily business macro managers are enticed to do I when their job is to A, however I guess they were at some time micro managers and they did I, is it nostalgy?

Who knows!

T as in Thursday! Yes, you feel the weekend even closer.

T as in T-bone steak, today i got my teeth on a nice “vacio” from argentina, cut in a non-business oriented way!

T as in Today, for the meaning of present time of joy and opportunity!

T as in Tomorrow, for the dreams to come true.

T as in Thirsty, for knowledge to absorb.

T as in Tickles, I love the way my wife laughs when I tickle her… although she haits me for that.

T as in Tears, when i exchanged my son’s first diper as he screamed and we didnt know how to handle…

not so bad after all

It is this feeling that sometimes you feel on wednesdays.

The week is half way through and we are still here

We are at hanging in there… living your life, enjoying your family, working, etc. And especially on days like today barcelona has such mild weather is even better.

At this point, i am at the hair-dresser’s, the hair is too long and with such warm weather it makes it easier and more comfortable.

ethics & business

Today i feel like speaking a bit about these two strong words.

Ethics:
- how can you define them?
If i had to pick 3 words to describe them, i would say: protocal of fairness and respect.

Business:
- a sort of activity whose main objective is to generate some sort of profitable results.

The combination of these terms and the adoption of their content practices should be ideally part of the idiosincrasy of todays companies. Notwithstanding, it doesnt have a true match with reality.

Perhaps, i am a true purist and my principles for doing business are based on other and alternsative values, but i cannot go without expressing a dislike when i see that ethics and business do not walk together – this was the case this morning.

It is like being a gentleman in the romantic sense of the word. You defend your ideals towards reaching a greater good. When business are done ethics nor code of conduct is a bit like working for the oldest profession of all times.

Think about… It just produces a feeling of desenchanment.

sunny tuesday in bcn city

We are back to the city of sun in the mediterranean sea. After green areas, grey weayjer and just sparkles of sun, last night we flew into the warmth. Barcelona welcomed us with clear skys and the typical temperature where one feels invited to be outside.

Now, a short week is up, the downfalls of the monday were left behind in company of the family. The whole trip has felt like miniholidays, those are great because you feel you are out while everything goes on.

Many phone and telco companies offer customer support via phone or web. This morning when a client showed up at a shop with his invoice details explaining that ALL his telco services (phone, internet and tv) didnt work and he was wondering if at the shop he could be helped out.

The funniest thing was the answer of the personnel. The lady replied as a standard reassuring answer “yes, you can call for free from your house to the 1716 where they will help you in no time”, the man as he started walking to the door, he realized his phone is not working, so he stepped back in the shop again saying, “sorry to bother once more, but since my phone is not working and since i am already here, could i call from here with you?”, the lady said “no no, it is ok you call from your house, it is a free number”

My question now is, is there a moral in all this or is it simply a plain joke????
